The Social Aspects of Apartment Living

Over one-third of Canadians live in apartments. That’s a lot of opportunities to build connections! Because there are multiple households living under one roof, there is certainly a social aspect to apartment living.

One of the easiest ways to get involved with the community within your building is to spend time in your building’s common spaces. Gyms, pools, and rec rooms make great spots to meet a new friend. You already have two things in common--living in the same building and whatever activity you’re doing! Check out one of Stoney Creek Towers’ beautiful green spaces for some outdoor reading or yoga and you might just find a like-minded neighbour.

Nothing brings people together like our furry friends. Keep your eyes out for other animal lovers taking their pets for walks or playing with them in your building’s outdoor spaces. Strike up a conversation as your pets play together. You and your dog may make a new friend! Stoney Creek Towers is pet friendly, so consider starting a dog-walking group or setting up pet playdates with other residents.

Once you find your new building BFF, take turns introducing each other to your favourite nearby spots. Stoney Creek Towers is located near many fun places like parks, malls, cafes, restaurants, and pubs. You may just discover a new go-to place thanks to your neighbour’s recommendations.

Apartment living is always more fun with a friend. While it’s important to get involved in your building’s community, you can also bring someone with you. Who wouldn’t want to live next door to your friends or family members?

Remember how fun it was to live in a dorm during your university days? While living in an apartment building isn’t quite that open and wild, you still get that sense of community. Whether you want to be neighbours with your best friend or meet some new people, join in on your building’s activities and amenities. You never know who you might meet!

This year is about to end and a new one is about to begin. The end of a year is always a good time to plan and prepare. Here are some tips for preparing your apartment for 2020. Eliminate clutter.  When you live in a smaller space it’s easier for things to accumulate. Now is a good time to start thinking about what to save and what to pitch. It’s not easy, given that you probably have sentimental attachments to some of the things you really don’t need to save. We’re not talking photos, videos and other items of a personal nature, but how about clothing? If you have shirts, pants, coats, jackets, and other pieces of apparel you haven’t worn in a year or more, consider donating them to a thrift store. This is applicable to other things, too. If you have a desk or dining room table covered in months of paperwork, take the time to go through it, file what you need to save and discard unnecessary receipts, invoices and notes. Clean up.  Has it been some time since you’ve s...

The Perks of Living Near Parks

When living in a city, finding green space can be tough. You are surrounded by gorgeous architecture and have everything you need close by, but it’s natural to yearn for lush, open spaces sometimes. If you long to feel grass under your toes, but want the convenience of apartment living, be sure to choose a home near a few parks. Living close to a park is great for your mental and physical health. When you need to unwind, pack a picnic or your favorite book and spend some time in the fresh air. Parks also provide an outdoor space to exercise and play sports for those who don’t have a yard (or who want to make new friends!). Having a space to be physically active and explore nature is especially beneficial for children. It has even been shown to reduce behavioral problems. Parks are also a community hub where you can enjoy activities with family, friends, and neighbours. From celebrating a birthday outdoors, to catching up with an old friend, to taking part in a community event,...
